Fire By Friction Sunday, October 23rd, 2016
Used by all of our ancestors for cooking, warmth and light, Fire still plays a tangible role in our lives to this day. In this workshop we will introduce fire by friction and the Bow- Drill technique.
Participants will learn : -knife safety
- kit construction
- wood carving
- material selection
- fire construction
- cordage making
- stone tools
Its a rewarding sensation. After a bit of carving, some elbow grease and preparation- a small ember is born from the friction and blown into flames. With some practice, this technique can be used almost anywhere you may wander. For fun or survival, making fire is a valuable skill for everyone.'
Natural Shelter Building, Saturday November 5th, 2016
Getting a good nights sleep is so important. As well as maintaining body core temperature and safety from potential hazards. For that reason, a well built shelter is the most important basic human need. This day long workshop will focus on basic principals and techniques for shelter building. Using only natural materials we will build a "Debris-Hut'' and learn how to expand on those concepts to make shelters for a larger group or different weather conditions. Honing the skills of shelter building gives us an ability to make a home, and feel at home almost anywhere.
