4E offers programs that introduce Earth Skills, which are a blend of the ancient arts of tracking, wilderness survival, and nature awareness. Our curriculum and experienced instructors give children, teens and adults first-hand experience of how to 'read' the landscape as stewards of the Earth. Through our programs, a re-thinking of our relationship to nature begins to occur. Nature is not simply a resource that we control as a product; it is a relationship we must cultivate. Our mission is to offer programs that guide children, families and teens toward a pure connection to the Earth through direct experiences in nature.
The Kitchen Coordinator/Cooks will be responsible for food and supplies monitoring, meal planning, preparation, clean-up, and supervision of the kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of these programs and requires a person dedicated to providing a nourishing and welcoming space for our families.

- Family Weekend: May 19-21 located in Waretown NJ

- Staff Training: July 19 - 22 located at the Mohican Centre NJ
- Family Weeklong Camp: July 23-28 located at the Mohican Centre NJ
- Family Weeklong Camp: July 31-Aug 4 located at the Mohican Centre NJ
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage outdoor kitchen set up, food organization and storage.
- Oversee the cleanliness and sanitation of the outdoor kitchen, storage areas, food preparation areas, and utensils.
- Monitor cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces, and kitchen area.
- Monitor coolers and ice, replenishing as needed.
- Plan and prepare meals to meet the nutritional needs and dietary restrictions of participants, volunteers, and staff. Monitor food and supplies
- Handle, prepare, serve, and dispose of food safely and properly.
- Supervise all staff in the kitchen including volunteers with serving, washing dishes, or prep.
- Manage unloading, unpacking, and storing of kitchen and food supplies.
- Maintains good standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of all food-service facilities.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Program Operations Manager and Program Director.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Desire to work in the support of all kitchen camp operations
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Knowledge of and experience in food service including ordering, inventory, food preparation and cleaning
- Previous cooking and kitchen experience
- Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds including unloading food, carrying trays of dishes, lifting supplies as needed Ability to understand and adhere to restrictions surrounding special diets and allergies
- Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check
- Must hold a valid drivers license
- Must be able and willing to work in a outdoor kitchen, using propane stoves.
- Must be able and willing to stay at the camp for the duration
- Must provide own camping gear including tent and sleeping set up
- Willingness to work long hours at times
Compensation
- Daily rate of $200 during program (full day consists of early morning to dinner)
- Allocation of additional 1 day pay for pre camp preparation and kitchen set up.
- Reimbursement of mileage (with record of odometer at start and end of journey) at non-profit mileage rate of $0.14 per mile
- Reimbursement of toll costs (with copy of receipts)
- Reimbursement of preapproved expenses related to the program including background check
- All meals are provided
- Cabin accommodation provided at the Mohican Centre family camps

4 Elements Earth Education (4E) is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit headquartered in Nevada City, CA. We are currently looking for a part-time Office Assistant to join our rapidly growing team! The Office Assistant will be responsible for basic clerical tasks, including answering the phone and responding to emails, as well as day-to-day operations support of our youth and family programs, including registration and payment assistance, client communications and internal resource planning.
Our ideal candidate is organized, reliable, motivated and self-staring—experienced and comfortable working with little supervision. Training will be provided on all specialized systems (registration, marketing, payment and accounting systems, as appropriate). Previous experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) is required, as is basic PC and typing proficiency.
Starting Pay: $16-$18/hour (depending on skills and experience)
Start Date: Monday 10/4/2021, or as soon as possible!
Schedule: 16-20 hours/week; days/times flexible within Mon-Fri 7am-6pm

Responsibilities
Regular Clerical Tasks
- Answer phone calls to the office and return voicemail messages
- Check office emails and reply or forward promptly
- Track customer and other inquiries and requests to resolution
- Check the USPS PO Box and process mail
- Prepare and deliver bank deposits of cash and checks
- Ensure on-time payment of all recurring and one-time bills
- Participate in weekly office status meetings
- Post customer payments to registration system
- Pursue unpaid balances to resolution
- Run participant reports/rosters for each new session and as requested
- Create custom participant and financial reports as needed or directed
- Basic registration system administration (create new programs from templates, apply discounts/scholarships according to policies)
- On-site registration assistance and merchandise sales (~ 5 days per season)
- Create instructor safety/emergency info sheets
- Assist families with registration, payments, schedule changes
- Answer process questions and provide technical support
- Procure and deliver supplies as requested by instructional staff
Other Tasks as Directed (by the Executive Director or Operations Manager); for example:
- Oversee merchandise orders and inventory management
- Monitor and/or help administer social media pages, communications and content
- Planning and execution of local or online fundraising and other special events
- Process insurance policy renewals and audits
- Prepare and submit required corporate filings
- Accounting system (QuickBooks) data input and reporting
- Payroll and employee expense reimbursement processing
- Program and budget data analysis
- Website content updates for new season schedules, policies, etc.
Qualifications
- Organized, trustworthy and reliable
- Must be able to independently manage and prioritize tasks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic PC (Windows) navigation and typing proficiency
- Experienced and comfortable using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel)
- Flexible and adaptable; small business experience preferred
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Willing and able to work out of our Nevada City office

Fox Walkers Youth Programs - Earth Skills Instructor

Our Earth Skills Instructors lead outdoor nature connection activities, earth skills development, and wilderness experience programs for youth and teens, aged 4+. Applicants with less experience and/or skills may be invited to join our team in a supporting role, provided they exhibit interest in developing individual skills and are personally motivated by our mission. Specific job duties and compensation shall be negotiated based on experience.
We are looking for a vibrant, enthusiastic addition our teaching team. Our ideal candidate:
- loves working with children and understands their developmental needs;
- knows what Earth Skills are and has at least practice in some, but preferably proficiency in many, of these skills;
- has personal experiences of deep nature connection through wilderness immersion/survival living/etc.; and
- feels personally aligned with and motivated by the 4E mission.

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Oversee physical and emotional safety and instruction for children during our programs.
- Guide groups of 6-15 children, with at least one other instructor/intern, through the day's activities. Young Fox Walkers groups meet for 3 hours, usually in the morning. Fox Walkers meet for either a half-day (3 hours in the morning or afternoon) or full day (7 hours).
- Work with teaching team to develop lesson plans and related program activities.
- Stay open, aware, and flexible enough to recognize and seize opportunities to facilitate spontaneous teaching in the flow of nature).
- Participate in instructor planning meetings, staff development trainings, promotional events, and other meetings as requested.
- As experience permits, mentor the teen interns and volunteers that serve our programs.
