Fire Making
Used by all of our ancestors for cooking, warmth and light, Fire still plays a tangible role in our lives to this day. In this workshop, we will introduce fire by how to make a "tipi" fire structure and the Bow- Drill friction fire technique.
Participants will learn : -knife safety - kit construction - wood carving- material selection -fire construction
- cordage making - stone tools.
It's a rewarding sensation. After a bit of carving, some elbow grease and preparation- a small ember is born from the friction and blown into flames. With some practice, this technique can be used almost anywhere you may wander.
Natural Shelter Building
Getting a good nights sleep is so important. As well as maintaining body core temperature and safety from potential hazards. For that reason, a well-built shelter is the most important basic human need. We will focus on basic principals and techniques for shelter building. Using only natural materials we will build a "Debris-Hut'' and learn how to expand on those concepts to make shelters for a larger group or different weather conditions. Honing the skills of shelter building gives us an ability to make a home, and feel at home almost anywhere.'
Tracking and Awareness
To a Tracker, everything is a track. We will do some basic Animal ID of Tracks and Gaits of different animals.
We will go into studying the concentric rings in nature and how this is inseparable from tracking. The basics of lost proofing and how to learn to follow a trail will be part of the adventure to the world of Tracking.
Water
Water is so crucial for all Life. We will go over ways to find pure water and how to purify water in the bush.
Food
The use of a throwing stick will be demonstrated and practiced. A few survival traps will be taught. Some basic Plant ID and some Wild Edibles will be shown. As well as Stalking techniques, Fox Walking and natural Camouflage
The Caretaker Attitude
All the skills we share are in the philosophy of being a caretaker of the Earth. We first think of how this will help nature and thus, in turn, we help keep our home the Earth healthy for all the life.
Bring a lunch, water bottle and get ready to have fun while learning valuable wilderness Skills!
"Survival is the gateway to the earth. Tracking and awareness are the gateway to the spirit” - Stalking Wolf
