4EEE Teen, Adult and Family Programs
Our Programs introduce Earth Skills, a blend of the ancient arts of tracking, wilderness survival, and nature awareness. Through our programs, a re-thinking of our connection to nature begins to occur.
Through hands-on skills, games, songs and storytelling, we create an "invisible school", where kids learn directly from the Earth while having tons of fun, laughing and playing with each other. Our curriculum is inspired from Indigenous values and the Old Ways Earth Skills, largely learned from the Tracker School and through each Instructor's own "dirt time" living these skills.
Located in the Burton Educational Preserve, a few minutes from downtown Nevada City, previously know as Burton Homestead. This 38+ acres of land is home to our Fox Walkers programs and the Pata Panaka Village site, a restoration of the landscape and the rebuilding of a cultural village with the Siakumne Tribe.
Nature is not simply a resource that we control as a product, but a relationship we must cultivate.

Spring Break
Fox Walkers | Monday through Friday | 9:30am - 3:30pm | Ages 7-17 *Different content will be offered for age groups 8-11 and 12-17.
Participants will craft their own snap bows and arrows, including blunt arrows for safe practice shooting. They’ll learn tracking and awareness skills, explore hunting ethics, and develop a caretaker mindset that honors life and land alike.
Guided by Rick Berry, who learned traditional hunting ways while living in the remote Klamath Mountains, this experience goes far beyond making tools. It is an invitation into relationship and a commitment to listen to the land, move with awareness, and understand the responsibility that comes with taking a life.
Throughout the week, youth will engage with old teachings that ask important questions, including:
How do we fill the space created when we take a life?
And how do we give back: to the land, the community, and the living world that sustains us?
This is not about sport or conquest.
It is about respect, responsibility, and remembering our place within the natural world.
